Technical services market opportunities are easier to assess when the starting point is a specific customer need. A large market can still be difficult to enter, while a smaller segment may offer a clearer route to qualified demand.

Identify the Reason to Buy

Ask what creates the need for the service. It may be a new product, a customer specification, entry into a destination market, a supplier change or an investigation. Establish whether that reason is current and relevant to the accounts you can reach.

Cross the Service with the Customer Segment

Build a short opportunity map around three dimensions: what the provider can deliver, who needs it and where the customer intends to use the result. The country where you prospect and the market where a product will be sold may be different.

Assess the Route to the Customer

  • Which accounts have a defined requirement?
  • Who currently serves them and why might they consider an alternative?
  • Could a complementary laboratory, adviser or technical partner provide access?
  • What recognition, language or delivery conditions must be checked?
  • Can the provider quote and perform the work within the customer’s constraints?

Validate Before Scaling

Test a small set of accounts or partners and record the response. Distinguish general interest from a requirement that can progress to a technical discussion or quotation. Use what you learn to refine the segment, offer and approach.
